Food Inc.

I just watched "Food Inc." and found it very inspirational, interesting, and highly motivating. Not only that, I am disgusted with the way most of our food is grown, how our farmers are treated and "run" by big companies, and how our government isn't doing much to stop it. Do you KNOW what is in the food you eat? I suggest you watch this documentary. I just watched it on Netflix, I am sure there are other ways to get it, but this was an easy way to see it. I watched it while folding laundry-you can do that too if you have no other time to watch it. Seriously! Everyone needs to see this. If you have seen it, I want your thoughts and opinions about it.

I watched this a couple times in the last 6 weeks and have yet to eat since. If you want more disturbing documentaries I document them on a blog. You can check it out - if you do, consider it like a personal letter. Because no one actually reads this blog: www.docthursday.blogspot.com

I borrowed this from the library and only ended up getting to watch half because of the girls. Pete watched the whole thing. I really was grossed out by the sterilized hamburger filler. I need to watch the whole thing. As a marketplace we need to demand, with our dollar, a better, more wholesome product. If everyone did that we wouldn't have this problem. And what is with the corn subsidies? Growing something and selling it for less than it costs to grow? What is up with that?

I haven't watched that one yet, but I love documentaries (I know, I'm a nerd!) Netflix has some great ones! King Corn, The Business of Being Born, A Family Undertaking POV (reub thinks this one is morbid, but I thought it was fascinating), Walmart: the high cost of low prices, Supersize Me, The Future of Food, A Journy home. 3 of those are food related. The rest are just worth watching, and most are "watch instantly" on netflix :)

Well...TARA!! (heehee. I'm getting a tone with you.) I would definitely take this documentary with a grain of salt. The issues are very complex. I have not actually seen it, but I read about it, and sounds to me like it is a pro-BIG government,PEETA inspired, EPA regulation type documentary. There are definitely food issues that could be corrected, but government isn't the answer to all our problems. Do we really want to give them that much power? And not to mention, I think this documentary (or at least the stuff that I read on the website about it) is really one-sided. It talked about the problems with pesticides, but did it go into detail about what the consequences of no pesticides would be? It talks about wages for farm workers, but does it tell you that farms (like my dad's potato farm that we lost, by the way) would usually barely break even every year? How on earth could we afford to pay better wages? And why are they blaming obesity on the food industry? BLAME THE PARENTS for hecks sake!! They are the consumer!! They don't have to buy crap food, they could demand better school lunches without federal government intervention (or send a lunch with your kid- cheaper anyway), and for crying out loud, throw away your darn nintendos! The consumers should take control. NOT Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. They are the LAST people on earth that I want regulating ANYTHING!

Ashley, you should watch the documentary. They side with the farmers and exploit how the government has ruined our food system. I grew up on a farm and totally understand the difficulties of farming. If anything, the film wants the gov't (along with big corporations) to leave the food industry alone and let the consumers decide what they want. Watch it before you get too critical. You should take people on the internet with a grain of salt;)

Randy!!!! Ha! The information that I provided above was based on the videos OFFICIAL website, not a person on the internet. But, you are right in that I should probably watch the entire video. I'm not saying that it doesn't have some points, BUT I did not agree with the things that I specifically read on the website. Tara! Getting your husband all after me. Now I'm going to have to go and find Travis so he can yell at you.
